Well this doesn’t always work, however if you find any fantastic fabric that you can’t resist, buy 3m of it to keep your options open when you’re ready to sew something.

Here are some tips for buying a fabric:
Check that the fabric is one of the ones recommended on the back of your pattern envelope.
  •   Unroll the fabric fastener a little and have a look at the fabric. How do you like the feel of it? Is it soft or stiff? Is it the one which you are looking for?
  •   Have a look at the label – there should be information about the woolen fabric and care instructions. Is it washable in machine or can only be dry cleaned? And if it asking for very high maintenance, move on.
  •   Try to visualize your final product with fabric. How does it look? Do you actually like it? And how well the color of that fabric is suiting your skin tone?
  •   Check the width of the fabric. Fabrics are made in different widths: mainly 150cm (60”) and 115cm (45”). Look at your pattern to find out what length of fabric you will need to buy.
  •   Take your time – once you’ve had the fabric cut from the roll, it cannot be returned, so be calm while buying one.
